Completing our entrance

We have been working yet again trying to get as much as possible done this week making it easier after handover. Today my wonderful husband who is an electrician hung the front entrance chandeliers. We bought these sometime back while on holidays. We were lucky enough to find a pair which is getting harder and harder to find when you are looking at vintage lighting so I knew to jump on them.

3 days to go and counting till we get our keys and start putting everything in its place. All very exciting!!!

A chandelier for our guestroom

I have spent many years collecting old chandeliers for the day we built our new house and today we starting putting a few into their new home. I have sort them from everywhere but some of my best finds have come straight from eBay. I always love finding a good bargain!

This one which we have popped in our guestroom was picked up on eBay about 4 years ago for $50 which was a great buy. It came from an amazing white mansion in Kew (Melbourne Australia) and was featured in a bedroom. I love the old porcelain roses and the little cherub sitting in the middle of its own little frame. So simple and yet very sweet.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. We are off to the market in the morning...hoping to find some great treasures!

Counting down

Hi everyone, I am very sorry it has been so long since my last blog post but today I have good news. We have 7 days to go till we finally get the keys to our home. We are so excited that there is finally light at the end of the tunnel after a stressful 13mth build! What a busy time we are going to have with only two weeks to unpack and settle in, pop Christmas decorations up and prepare Christmas lunch for the family...I wonder if I will be able to do it all in time? Hope so.

Sooner than latter

So, they say we will be in sooner than latter but still no date has been given for handover. Saturday just past was suppose to be our handover day but that didnt happen as there are still a few things that need to be finished off. They are sanding the floors this week and then the carpet goes in, painters come back for the touch ups and then the final site clean will happen.

But since I last blogged there has been a bit of work done, as you can see the front is now completly finished.

Window canopies on

Painting done

Tiling done

Front door contrasting colour done

Garage door installed

Rendered and painted

We still have lots to do after handover but getting the keys will be a new chapter in our lives. Cant wait! Thanks for dropping in.

Covering up

Well the house has seen many trades this week- carpenters, painters and bricklayers just to mention a few. They started bagging the brickwork and should have it painted up soon. I'm so glad the bricks wont be visible anymore as we had a few problems with the bricklayer and we were not very happy with his work. Its hard to get good tradesmen!

We are getting closer to handover...well...thats what I keep telling myself.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

A lick of paint

We had the most perfect weather here in Melbourne today. The sun was shining and the sky was blue so I thought I would grab my camera and take a drive down to the house to snap some photos to share with you all. To my surprise the painters had started working on the exterior which had me very excited!

I have to say I had the worse time choosing colours! My husband was no help as he didn't want to be blamed if he helped pick the colour and I didn't like it in the end so he stayed clear of decisions. I went through so many sample pots before choosing and then after submitting my colour selection I changed yet again but I have to say I am really pleased with the overall colour now.

I wanted a colour that resembled my creamy French furniture but found it hard as they were either tinted too green or too pink peach. Eventually I pulled out a draw from a piece of furniture and took it down to the paint center to see what I could match it up with. That's when I found a colour called Knave by Solver Paints which screamed French flair. I loved it straight away.

Its amazing what a bit of paint can do.

And here's the vintage dormer all dressed up.

Thanks for coming to visit.

I look forward to sharing more with you all soon.

Whats in a name???

A big hello to all my old blog friends. It has been some time since I have sat and typed apart from check in on facebook but I have to say I'm back feeling refreshed and ready to share many things with you all. The past 10 months we have been busy building our new house which has had its ups and its downs to say the least. NEVER AGAIN! No more moves for us when we finally get in.

ABOVE: Our dormer window at frame stage

Anyway..I thought it was time for a house (one day soon) lifestyle (joined the gym) name (hmmm) but what??? Well our house first started off as a single story, then a single story with an attic but what about our views from the side? Wouldn't it nice to have one of those cute dormer windows to look out of? And that was that. Perfect idea for our house and perfect idea for my new name.

So with all that said, I would like to welcome you all to The Vintage Dormer!

Isn't it weird how we come up with our names?

How did you come up with yours?
