Smelling the roses

We have had wonderful weather the past few days and my roses are blooming beautifully, although this afternoon we are expecting a change. So I thought I would cut a few more blooms to bring inside before they blow away. The smell is amazing!!!

I wish I could share their smell but for now the image will have to do :)

Less can be more

Sometimes its easy to pass things by while out treasure hunting...this morning while visiting an opp shop I glanced twice at a pair of vintage French crock mustard pots. My first though was to use them as vases. I picked them up and put them straight back down. I wondered if I should buy them? I was so close to leaving them there but I decided to give them a try. After bringing them home and giving them a good scrub, I have come to believe that sometimes less can be more. You don't have to spend allot of money on vases as its nice to have the blooms being the focal rather than the vase itself.

A perfect day for picking roses

I hope you all have been enjoying your weekend. We have beautiful weather in Melbourne today so we are making the most of it pottering around in the yards getting ready for our next step which is planting the rose garden out front. I have oodles of blooms on my potted roses so I thought I would cut a few to share with you all.

My all time fav old concrete urn found at a market years ago for $15...I couldn't believe my luck! I really am going to enjoy filling it with blooms from my rose garden this year.

Urn filled with home grown David Austin Mary Magdalene roses

Enjoy!

A simple rose named Mary Magdalene

This year I bought a number of bare rooted roses for the garden. Nowhere as many as I need but this year we will be directing our efforts into finishing off the front yard first and then moving onto the side yard. One of the roses I will be mass planting is the David Austin Mary Magdalene rose bush. I had never seen this rose personally but several rose growers had recommended it to me so I went with it.

The first rose bud...

Starting to open...the smell is simply intoxicating...

My first Mary Magdalene rose in full bloom...

I just love the color variation!

Up close and personal with Mary Magdalene

and the second rose...showing more of her golden halo...

Faded petals after a few days...

A simply stunning rose all over.

A single rose from my boy

This photo means the word to me. The rose came from my weaping Pierre de Ronsard which was dug up before we sold our old home. It is currently living at my in laws while we get our garden prepared. The vase was bought by my son some years ago on Mothers Day morning while we attended a Flea Market. Jake would have been around 6yo. He took it home and cut 1 single Pierre de Ronsard rose from the bac...
kyard and brought it inside and said, "Happy Mothers Day Mum. I saw this at the market and thought of you. Now I can pick you roses all the time and put them in your special vase so you can enjoy them while thinking of me." Awww, my boy really is a diamond! So last night we were at my in laws house visiting. Jake ran inside with this single rose and said, "Mum this is for you to put in your special vase." Over the last 5yrs he hadn't forgotten about my special vase he bought me for my Pierre de Ronsard rose. What a wonderful boy I have. I love you Jake ♥

Feeling sunny

The past few days we have had perfect weather...the sun is shining and bringing warmth to the air.
Yesterday my son went outside and picked me a bunch of these sunny blooms that grow wild.

How can you not feel happy gazing at their sunny tones?

Have a happy day :)
